I’m distinctly not a night owl, my natural sleep schedule has me waking up at around 8:30AM and going to sleep no later than 10PM, even staying up until midnight is very difficult for me without coffee. However, there’s something unmistakably special about the late hours of the night and early hours of the morning. From approximately 11PM to 4AM, the world just has this certain air of mysteriousness and privacy to it, the vast majority of the population is asleep, which produces an incredible sense of freedom. During those hours, the omnipresent pressure from society to be productive disappears, and the world essentially becomes your oyster as you’re left with nothing but you and whatever you choose to surround yourself with. That’s not to mention the physical beauty of the night, I don’t live rurally enough to escape the effects of light pollution, but gazing at the stars and pitch-black sky is a stark reminder of how small we all are compared to the universe. Daytime certainly has its perks as well, I find it much easier to get work done and way more stuff is open, but the late night will always hold a special place in my heart.
